Collin Raye – Love Me

Today, because I am dead tired from my day job and night class, I shall simply put up a video.
The title’s Love Me by Collin Raye.
And so according to Wikipedia…
‘In January 1992, the single became Raye’s first Number One single on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts; the same year, the song received a Song of the Year nomination from the Country Music Association.’
It has also been cited as a popular choice for Funerals.
You’d understand why after you listen.
Believe me.
I cried.

Here’s the tearful lyrics of the song from Lyrics007:

I read a note my Grandma wrote back in 1923
Grandpa kept it in his coat, and he showed it once to me
He said, “Boy, you might not understand, but a long, long time ago,
Grandma’s daddy didn’t like me none, but I love your Grandma so.

We had this crazy plan to meet and run away together
Get married in the first town we came to and live forever
But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet instead
I found this letter, and this is what it said,

“If you get there before I do
Don’t give up on me
I’ll meet you when my chores are through
I don’t know how long I’ll be

But I’m not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then
Til I see you again

I’ll be loving you
Love, Me.”

I read those words just hours before my Grandma passed away
In the doorway of the church where me and Grandpa stopped to pray
I know I’ve never seen him cry in all my fifteen years
But as he said these words to her, his eyes fill up with tears

“If you get there before I do
Don’t give up on me
I’ll meet you when my chores are through
I don’t know how long I’ll be

But I’m not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then
Til I see you again

I’ll be loving you
Love, Me.”

The Dark Knight Rises – An EPIC Conclusion indeed.

Seriously? After watching the final film of the Batman trilogy, I think the word ‘Epic’ is an understatement of the century (or millennium for that matter)

First, as with all reviews, here’s the synopsis:

Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy concludes with this Warner Brothers release that finds The Dark Knight pitted against Bane, an unstoppable foe possessed of tremendous physical and intellectual strength. Nearly a decade after taking the fall for Harvey Dent’s death and disappearing into the darkness, a fugitive Batman (Christian Bale) watches from the shadows as the Dent Act keeps the streets of Gotham City free of crime. Meanwhile, an elusive cat burglar seizes the chance to strike, and a masked anarchist plots a devastating series of attacks designed to lure Bruce Wayne out of the shadows. Determined not to abandon the people who he once risked his life to protect, The Dark Knight emerges from his self-imposed exile ready to fight. But Bane (Tom Hardy) is ready, too, and once Batman is within his grasp, he will do everything in his power to break Gotham City’s shadowy savior.

Oscar-winner Michael Caine and Gary Oldman return in a sequel also starring Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ – Funny (Lots of subtle humour in there). Tragic. Dark. Adventurous. And best of all? Excellent plot, great music, bloody good cinematic effects – doesn’t look the least bit cheesy or corny to me as with some action-pack hero movies. Extremely strong foundation and base in reality.

What I really love about this movie? It was directed in such a way that’s based off very strongly on reality, touching on real-life existing topics such as Terrorism, Family (or anyone you care for), Liberation, Freedom of Speech, Extremist thinking etc. Controversial topics, essentially.

This is one rare movie series that I’ve watched, which is all written out and screened in such a way that makes you think ‘Ho kay, this IS something that really COULD happen to me in real life.’ Because everything is made to be believable. No one has super powers. Batman doesn’t. Bane doesn’t and neither does Catwoman. They all rely on sheer wit, strength, rock hard determination and a very very huge arsenal of weapons. In reality, that kind of scenario IS possible and achievable…or at least more so than having the ability to move objects with your mind and teleporting between places.

Onto the characters: Batman suffers a lot in here. I nearly cried at the torment which he had to undergo but started clapping my hands like a retarded seal once he found his renewed strength to return and fight for Gotham. Bane’s character (Tom Hardy)also looks a lot better in this movie than his previous ones. At least his muscles don’t look fake, bulging out with veins and stuff. This one, is lean…and mean. (thanks to the endless gym trips). Anne Hathaway was wonderful as Catwoman, playing out the damsel in distress in one moment and kicking ass in the next shot. Beautiful, deadly and highly intelligent – mrrrow.

Of course, how could we forget Morgan Freeman as Fox? His oh-so-lovely voice and Michael Caine as Bruce Wayne’s ever loyal butler? Excellent support characters. Without them, the movie would probably not be as fantastic.

The Dark Knight series has been not just a movie about Batman, but it also contains philosophies about which makes you sit and think long after the credits have ended. I now have a ton of questions which I shall go find out…soon…after my sleep.

P.S. A bit of a hint here…Bane is not the mastermind. Instead, the mastermind is SOMEBODY who appears to be one of the good guys in the beginning. And yes, there IS a proper conclusion to the whole story, no cliffhangers people. Don’t worry.

Ojamajo doremi – Ojamajo Carnival!!

Okay, I have no idea why but this song suddenly appeared in my head. It’s the opening of one of my favourite childhood shows – Ojamajo Doremi (Magical Do-Re-Mi) and the title is ‘Ojamajo Carnival!!’

Plot Summary: Doremi Harukaze, 3rd grade student at Misora Elementary School, claims to be the world’s unluckiest pretty girl. Fascinated by witchcraft, she is drawn into a mysterious shop where she meets Majo Rika and is able to deduce that this lady is in fact a real witch. Being exposed by a human triggers a curse that transforms witches into magical frogs. To regain her original body, Rika must turn Doremi into a witch by teaching her how to use magic. Thrilled by this odd development, Harukaze becomes a witch apprentice. Unfortunately, her two best friends, Hazuki Fujiwara and Aiko Senoo, discover that Doremi has become a magic user. Afraid that Harukaze might become a magical frog too, Majo Rika recruits both Hazuki and Aiko and makes them witch apprentices too. The trio has lots of adventures as they try to triumph the necessary trials to become real witches.

It’s cute and lots of fun! I’d probably watch it again just for nostalgia sake, even though it will probably kill a ton of my brain cells cause the show’s –

  1. Brain dead and
  2. A little delusional, where everything’s all puppies, rainbows, unicorns etc. if you know what I mean (NO! DO NOT INSERT MR BEAN MEME HERE PLEASE TYVM!)

Here’s the full song:

Lyrics, both romanji and english translation are as below:

The Avengers Movie @ IMAX in 3D

I’ve only got one word. Yes. Just ONE BLOODY WORD to describe the experience of watching the Avengers Movie @ IMAX in 3D.

And that’s…

The level of awesomeness is SO high that no words are enough to describe it. And I’m not kidding. I’m pretty sure those of you who have actually watched it would agree with me.

Before anything, here’s the synopsis of The Avengers:

Marvel Studios presents Marvel’s Avengers Assemble — the Super Hero team-up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges threatening global safety and security, Nick Fury; Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins…

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston, with Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson, and written and directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since.

Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when Marvel’s Avengers Assemble hits cinemas on April 26 2012.

The movie was definitely not a disappointment at all. Everyone had their fair share of screen time:

Tony Stark aka Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.) with his snarkiness

Steve Rogers aka Captain America(Chris Evans) and his die-heart soldier’s attitude

Bruce Banner aka The Hulk along with his brute strength and intelligence

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his trusty hammer

Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) with Agent Natalia Romanova aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson)  equipped with an archery set and pistols respectively, and of course their skills in assassination.

And how can we forget ‘the man himself’ who brought together the entire team –

 Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson)

and our badass villian, Asgardian Loki (Tom HIddleston).

Each characters have their own personality/quirks, which initially made them a ‘ticking time bomb’ as quoted by Bruce Banner. Stark and Bruce became quick buddies because of their wit and intellect (nobody else understood what they were saying when they spoke about astro-physics). Steve Rogers and Stark hated each other’s guts in the beginning and oh yeah, because of how Thor took Loki away, Stark had a battle with Thor. (Stark headbutt Thor, a demigod, and nearly had his own armor dented when Thor returned one of his own)

Of course, they did eventually learn to work as a team…through some external intervention. Yes. The interventions usually includes being ass-whipped by the enemy, including Hawkeye who…well…had a spell cast on him by Loki and ended up being mind-controlled.

Initially simply portrayed as an action-filled show, I was very surprised to find a hell lot of comedic scenes in there as well. None of which came across as lame to me. The humor is subtle yet it tickled my funny bone enough to give me a tummyache laughing.

Here are some favourite scenes of mine from the movie: (SPOILERS AHEAD!)

1. Loki gets whacked by Hulk after declaring himself a god, with Hulk walking away saying ‘Puny God’ (chibi comic:

2. Thor and Ironman (Stark) have a headbutting session during their fight scenes, with Ironman getting a dent in his suit.

3. After Nick Fury uses the ‘flying monkey’ reference with regards to Loki’s mind control ability, everyone turns to Captain America (Steve Rogers), as if wondering if he caught the reference, which he did.

4. How Black Widow acted (either that or made a supremely quick recovery) during her interrogation of Loki, getting the necessary information for the team.

5. Thor getting slammed into by Tony just after he telling Loki to listen up, to which of course the Asgardian simply sat and smiled in reply, ‘I’m listening’ to thin air.

6. The fight scenes between the aliens and the Avengers. All of it.

7. Loki announcing to Tony that he has an Army while Tony simply replied ‘We have a Hulk’ in a nonchalant manner.

8. Hawkeye twisting and turning around mid-jump off a building and shoot. *fangirl mode activated*

9. Loki’s costume morph from a normal tuxedo suit into his god costume.

10. Thor receiving a random punch from Hulk and he flies off-screen.

And there’re some subtle references to other movies as well…(Twilight and Starwars) go fig XD

So yeah, that’s about it.

Really, go watch it. You will NOT regret it I tell you.

P.S. Go onto Youtube and have fun watching the clips if you haven’t ^^

欢子 – 心痛 (Heart in Pain)

English Translation:

Your face was buried in my chest

With your tears having soaked through my sleeves

We were both silent for a long while

With you finally saying those forbidden words

Only having myself to be blamed for not holding you tight enough

Only knowing how important you are after losing you

It’s no use regretting now

even though my heart is aching

Only having myself to be blamed for not expressing my love

No longer do you have  any reasons to love me now

After losing you

Even breathing has become unbearable

You turned away and left after our embrace

Though smiling as I said goodbye, my heart was trembling on the inside

I’ve lost the courage to ask

for the reason you left

For a long time I’ve wanted to express my love for you

but I never did

For not treating you well in the past,

I feel the weight of my guilt

Only having myself to be blamed for not holding you tight enough

Only knowing how important you are after losing you

It’s no use regretting now

even though my heart is aching

Only having myself to be blamed for not expressing my love

No longer do you have  any reasons to love me now

After losing you

Even breathing has become unbearable

Having a family in Singapore? More $$$ in pockets isn’t enough

Okay. Unless you’re a mountain turtle or have been living under a rock, I think you’d have heard at least ONCE about living expenses, starting a family, raising a kid etc. in Singapore.

And I think we all know that it just isn’t easy.

There are about a gazillion factors that goes through my head when I think about the issues of starting a family in Singapore – and guess what people? Money is just one of them.

Yes, the living expenses in Singapore is rather high, and is going up even higher thanks to inflation. Essentially to survive, we have no choice but to earn more money. Of course, sometimes people tend to go overboard with being materialistic and stuff even if they can’t afford it.

Yes, both males and females who favor money over health and their personal well-being. I have heard of horror stories where people starve themselves just to buy branded goods to show off. Or steal. Or enter prostitution.

But that’s not the point.

In terms of money, if one truly wishes to start a family but the amount of money isn’t sufficient, then make sacrifices. I’m not saying no food/drinks/living on scraps. I’m saying sacrifice overseas trips, cut down on expensive restaurant foods and such. Oh, and don’t buy more than what you need. Splurging once in awhile is ok,  but don’t overdo it. Latest trends and gadgets are not usually a must-have.

Also, how do you have more money in your pocket? Work. You slug your way out, climb up the corporate ladder, do plenty of OTs, just to earn a few more bucks. By the time you get home, you’ll be too tired to have a proper bonding session with your children. Having kids and seeing them only a few hours each day and two full days is not going to help bond the kid with the parents.

And yes, of course. There are those who don’t even have a chance to get attached. I believe the phrase ‘Why you want to have boyfriend/girlfriend? Study first lah! Get proper job first!’ And as faithful obedient little children, we do just that. Of course i’m not saying that you are entitled to get attached at a young age, especially not before your international exams are done with (aka O levels and A levels). After that, there are parents who still insist that their children carry on studying.

Essentially, studying and working has become part of their lives. It’s been ingrained into them and thus even in the future, they don’t actively seek out partners to be have long-term attachments with. Sometimes it’s their own choice, other times it’s cause their studies and work just takes up too much of their time.

In Singapore, our only resource are our people. We have minimal/almost no natural resources. Therefore, each of us are literally milked dry in order for our economy to grow. That’s the sad reality of it all. Without people, our country is just going to die.

Although fine to be fair it was the policies that landed us in this state in the first place.

So yeah, thinking of having a family in Singapore? Earning more money to cover living expenses isn’t enough. Unless you’re going to be like those parents who simply give their kids money and let them do whatever they want without caring for their emotional needs, you’ll probably need to find some other way to have a proper family where you can actually have sufficient time to bond with your kid.
